With the Tomb Raider reboot proving successful, it was inevitable that sequels would soon follow. Taking a grittier, more sober approach to the Lara Croft chronicles, this new take on the iconic franchise could be seen as the Daniel Craig movies in the James Bond series: slick and serious with not many tongue-in-cheek one-liners but plenty of thrills.

The big idea for Tomb Raider and its sequel, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, was to go the prequel route and reinvent Lara Croft somewhat through rich, cinematic visuals and an emphasis on storytelling. Where the old Tomb Raider games almost didn't really bother with a full story with brief cutscenes thrown in just to link the different stages together, these new instalments feel more
